Man shot dead one day after seeing attempted murder

By Susan Mohammed susan.mohammed@trinidadexpress.com

A DAY after the attempted murder of a man at Ste Madeleine, a witness to the crime who helped police identify suspects was shot dead on Monday night.
Kevin Ellis, a "PH" driver, of Montgomery Street, was killed near his home.
Ellis, 26, was shot in his head, face and upper body and died at the scene.
The murder toll for the year to date is now 44.
Police said yesterday Ellis was a witness to an attack in which Sean Baptiste, also of Ste Madeleine, was beaten unconscious on Sunday.
cont'd..

The above headline and excerpt for a daily news paper is an example of what i comsider socially irresponsible editing.
How many people will never consider admitting to witnessing a crime because of this?
How many cases will now be throw out because witnesses refuse to testify?
How many crimes will now go unpursued due to the police having no leads ? ( The Police's lack of  investigative capability will be the subject of a future post)

I consider myself a fairly brave person must must admit that a cold chill ran through me at the thought of being a witness to a crime and having to decide if to jepordise myself and my family by agreeing to assist the Police. I do not blame the mediahouse for the potential outcome of that action but i do hold them responsible for making my decision harder and that more terrifying.

BUT.....  mission accomplished paper bought and sold..........
